1. What is adaptive theatre?
Adaptive theatre is an inclusive performance experience designed to support individuals with disabilities in expressing themselves through drama, music, movement, and storytelling. At CATA, we celebrate creativity in all forms and welcome performers of all abilities.
2. Who can join CATA?
CATA is open to everyone, including people with a range of physical, intellectual, developmental, and neurodivergent disabilities. No prior theatre experience is necessary—just a willingness to participate and explore your creativity!
3. Do I need acting experience to get involved?
Not at all! Whether you’re a seasoned performer or brand new to the stage, we offer support and guidance to help everyone shine in their own way.
4. Can I participate if I don’t want to be on stage?
Absolutely! There are many ways to get involved, including set design, costumes, sound, lighting, stage management, and more. We believe that every role is essential to bringing a show to life.
5. What kind of support is provided for participants with disabilities?
Our team works closely with each participant to ensure their needs are met, whether that’s through accessible spaces, one-on-one support, or adaptive communication methods. We also welcome the involvement of caregivers and support professionals.
6. How can I volunteer?
We’re always looking for volunteers to assist with classes, rehearsals, productions, and events. Whether you’re interested in theatre, education, or community support, we’ll help you find a role that fits.
7. Can caregivers or family members attend or participate?
Yes! Caregivers are welcome to attend rehearsals and may be involved directly if the participant wishes. We also offer opportunities for family members to volunteer or support performances.
8. Is there a cost to participate?
We aim to keep our programs affordable and accessible. Some programs may have a small fee, but scholarships or sliding scale options are often available.
9. When and where do classes or rehearsals take place?
Programs run throughout the year at accessible locations in the community. Exact dates, times, and locations vary depending on the session. Please contact us or visit our Calendar & Productions page for the current schedule.
10. How can I support CATA if I can’t participate or volunteer?
You can support us by attending performances, donating, sponsoring a program, or helping spread the word. Every gesture of support helps us build a more inclusive and vibrant creative community.
The Spirit of Our Stage
These words guide our work and remind us why we gather.
May this stage be sacred ground—Where every voice is honored,
Every body celebrated, Every story held in light.
Let the courage of creation outweigh the fear of perfection.
Let joy be the compass, and love the script.
And may all who gather here—on stage or in seats—
Remember what it means to be truly seen.
